Free Health Insurance
The fact that health insurance is expensive is a well known one. People all across the country groan when they pay their monthly premium, wishing there was a cheaper alternative. Unfortunately, there are thousands of Americans who cannot afford even the most basic health insurance plan. The only hope for people like this is government sponsored health insurance.
Free Health Insurance: The OptionsFree or very cheap health insurance is available through government sponsored health insurance programs. Those over the age of 65 or who have disabilities will most likely be able to apply for and receive Medicare. Medicaid is another government sponsored health care program that is probably the best choice for people who cannot get Medicare and who are in a low income bracket. Those who are not eligible for either of these programs may be able to get health insurance for their children through Children’s Health Insurance Program or CHIP.
Free Health Insurance: MedicareMedicare is an excellent choice for those needing free health care who are over the age of 65. This program is also available for some younger people with disabilities or those who have certain diseases such as end-stage kidney disease. Medicare covers hospital bills under their free plan. Other coverage such as doctor’s visits and prescription medication require a monthly premium. It may seem difficult to find the money to pay for this additional coverage, but it is very important that you have this extra coverage. Without prescription medication coverage, a small bottle of pills could cost you hundreds of dollars. There are many different options available, so it should not be too difficult for you to find one that works well for you. After reviewing the options that Medicare offers, you should be able to find a good Medicare plan that covers doctor’s visits and your prescriptions at a monthly price that you can afford to pay.
Free Health Insurance: MedicaidMedicaid is the ideal insurance program for those who cannot afford their own health insurance. Most likely if you cannot afford any health insurance, you fall into the right income bracket and will be eligible for Medicaid. Although Medicaid is a national program, state governments are also involved. This means that the program will be slightly different in each state. Although all the states are required to meet the Medicaid guidelines, they may have added something extra into their program that they felt would be beneficial to you. Depending on the state that you live in, you may be able to get additional benefits that the government does not require them to give to you. Eligibility for Medicaid is based on any income or resources that you have. Your income includes Social Security, pension, and wages from a job. Resources are things that you own, but the government does not count your home or a single car as a resource. Once you are approved for Medicaid you will receive coverage for your medical bills and long term care in a nursing home or other facility. This medical coverage will pay for doctor appointments, hospital bills, and various medical testing. Some states give extra coverage for prescriptions, dental or vision coverage, and hearing aids.
Free Health Insurance: CHIPThe Children’s Health Insurance Program is available for those who do not fit the income requirements for Medicaid. This program has no income limit and will insure any child up to age 19 who is not eligible for medical assistance. Although they have no income limit for eligibility, there is an income limit set for who can receive health care from CHIP for free. Those who are over this limit will be charged a low monthly premium. Although there are several different options available through CHIP, it should not be difficult for you to find one that will cover all of your child’s health insurance needs.
